More Updates!!
I have forgotten about this completely cause I only post on bsky once a day now which is an improvement. I hope this post finds you well.
Final Fantasy XIII
Basically, my FFXIII progress has staggered thanks to thesis work, but I JUST got back to Cocoon after Pulse. I think it's really nice how the citizens of Pulse all lived together on a commune, and all shared resources and stuff. The fact that Barthandelus destroyed all that to make a capitalist and controlled state is crazy to see. XII was also really anti-imperialist, so it makes sense. God I love Final Fantasy XII too, and I'm really enjoying XIII!!!
I wish the confrontation between Vanille and Fang was more interesting though, as I heard Vanille's voice actress doesnt like fanille because Vanille reminds her of her abusive ex. Fang forgave Vanille immediately, because she knew all along. I expected something way more explosive. Fanille is still great, the way Fang is willing to risk it all for her.
Gameplay-wise, it's crazy how many people are straight-up wrong!! It is linear but in a way most JRPGs post PSX era were, don't understand why this one was picked out as the super linear one. Final Fantasy X had puzzles which makes it fun but there was no exploration! Final Fantasy XII had a lot of exploration but it's likely because Akitoshi Kawazu worked on it. The combat is also not even remotely "JRPG for people who hate JRPGs". You have to switch tactics constantly and rely on buffs/debuffs to finish off enemies in a short amount of time, which the game incentivizes you to do with the rating. The upgrade system is not as complicated as people make it seem besides transforming equipment after reaching max level. The level-locking is actually good because you can't easily overlevel and are forced to strategize. As well as previous Final Fantasy games doing the same with some spells (locking out spells until you get their espers in VI, can't access new classes until you reach a crystal in V). Lightning is also, in my opinion, a more interesting character than Cloud. She's more like Squall than Cloud anyways. This is likely gonna be in my eventual review so expect that plus other stuff when I finish it :P
Code Geass Season 1
I watched Code Geass with my brother (still haven't started season 2) and I had a really fun time. It's very bad at being smart, in fact I think every time it tries to be smart it's actually stupid. But the character drama is actually really good! It just sucks that the drama moments are forced by really a stupid plot (kill all the Japanese). I also think Nina's entire character being racist lesbian is funny but I expected more cause I really like her design (green two braided glasses girl).
Dragon Ball Z
I finally made it to episode 100. I understand that the pacing is super duper slow but I honestly haven't been bothered by it cause I only watch 1 episode per session, so I don't really get burned out. I'm like 6 episodes behind my schedule though so one of these days I'm gonna have to binge. Honestly the Frieza arc was really good. I really liked it. I heard the Cell saga is bad because it's so slow though, I'm scared.
Virus Buster Serge
This show is really bad not even gonna lie. But I somehow found joy in it. I'm not sure what it was. I was angry about it being bad the whole time but near the end I was just at peace with the universe. So I enjoyed it to an extent.
The Strokes
I've been getting really into The Strokes recently. I started hyperfixating on Julian Casablancas for reasons unknown and now I'm obsessed with them and listen to their music very often. I still listen to a lot of Chick Corea, Haru Nemuri, and others, but I'm really super duper into The Strokes now. I think chopped JC is still cute because the brainworms got me. He's so ugly and stupid but I love him, he's uglycute kind of, almost.
Akira Kurosawa Movies
I've been watching some of these at a theater near me, I watched 4 of them. They're all really good and a nice weekend relaxation between weekdays of thesis work. My ranking is as follows:
High and Low > Rashomon > Seven Samurai > Ikiru
Maybe it's because I had high hopes for Ikiru but I found it to be underwhelming.
Tomodachi Life
I'm SOOOO happy with the new game even if I wish the miis were more autonomous. I made my 4 main OC protagonists and a bunch of random characters and celebrities. Rena Lanford is in love with Claude C. Kenny but he doesn't care which is the exact opposite of Star Ocean 2 which I think is funny. JC is best friends with Asellus and Masato Kusaka. Kohei Murakami and Masato Kusaka hate each other. Wonderful game, will be adding more characters later.
Tyler the Creator Concert
I had a really really fun time at this concert. It was my first time going to a concert and being right next to the stage!! It was only an hour and a half but I felt so much joy, joy I hadn't felt in a while. I was so so so happy. When Tyler said "hola putos" I was hyped as fuck. We taught him how to say puñeta. It wad soooo fun.
Guitar
I'm getting back into playing guitar after a year-long break. I'm enjoying it again, learning songs I like. The Strokes' songs are really easy to play so I'm getting back into the groove with those. So far I can play Ode to the Mets, The Adults are Talking, Hard to Explain, Someday and Reptilia (with some issues on how clean the notes are). I'm also back to learning random songs but I won't mention them out of fear of being criticized for the rest of the music I like.
Cosplay
I made a Multi cosplay (from ToHeart) and wore it to Comic Con this year. I actually got recognized by a lot of people, more people than when I go as Ranka Lee. I was very happy :)
Thesis Work
I finished the written part of my thesis projext and turned it in 2 days ago. The hardest part (writing) is finally over, now I just need to fix the application and make the presentation and I'll be free of grad school. All that's left after that is the graduation.
Future Plans
- In July I'm going to China to present an article.
- In September I'm going to Japan with a friend.

- Will be learning more songs by The Strokes to eventually lead me to learning more difficult songs!!
- Will be playing Lost Judgement and the rest of the XIII games.
- Will be crocheting more, and sewing more.
- Will learn more cooking recipes cause I've discovered a love for cooking.
