DiaboLiQuE finished!
I'll keep this short because I spent over a month on this game and honestly don't remember enough details to give an in depth review.
Getting the negatives out of the way first, is a common flaw among text adventure games of the era where your options when exploring don't really matter, because the game forces you to pick the choice that the game wants. Almost every combat scenario was a bunch of trial and error of seeing what the game wants you to do. Even if it directed you to the correct choice it feels like a waste to even have options when most of them don't do much. The only combat I enjoyed was the last actual combat where it expects you to pick the options in a specific order and you figure out the order by trial and error.
Another thing is that besides Azulite and Leticia, all emotional beats with the characters fail cause there is not enough time given to the side characters for their character moments to matter. Chapter 5 had a lot of resolution for the side characters but there was no buildup to these resolutions anywhere prior.
Finally, it feels like the rape scenes in chapter 3 and 4 are just there to take up space (unless you have a rape fetish i guess) cause they didn't really contribute anything and I found the chapter 3 one to be especially misogynistic cause the woman who gets raped doesn't exist as a character outside of being a victim and a brocon.
Now for the good stuff, the art is stunning especially the monsters. They're all grotesquely beautiful. The mix of body horror and eroticism was fantastic. The designs for the characters are really nice too, ranging from simple clothing to very fantasy-esque armor. The coloring for the fabrics was very nice and appealing to look at.
Azulite as a character is adorable, the gap moe of him being super strong but being a shy pushover who gets bullied by everyone is wonderful. The game feminizes him for cutesy points like putting him in an apron he's like the ultimate malewife. Seeing Leticia take so many personalities in different incarnations was great too. The dynamic between Azulite and the many versions of Leticia is always fun. My favorite Leticia is chapter 2, where she's mean and pushy due to her life as a prostitute in this life.
Azulite and Leticia's romance is wonderful because Azulite is so caring and doting on Leticia. He cares about her more than his own life, which is to Leticia's dismay in chapter 5. Chapter 5 had such a great dynamic with them especially because there is so much time dedicated to them doing mundane things, exploring, eating, purchasing stuff.
The ending was super JRPG-like, I wasn't into it when I first got there but on the second attempt at the ending quiz I was super invested. And I will admit I teared up at the climax of chapter 5 as well as the happy ending. Speaking of which, I really liked the bad ending early in chapter 5 cause it reminded me of Asellus lol. The Diabolicas are kind of like the mystics in SaGa Frontier so that's another reason why I really liked it.
Only thing I can't comment on is the music cause I couldn't get it working. Just listened to BUCK-TICK the entire time. I hope someone translates this game so more people can play it. :)
