Baldur's Gate 1 - Part 2

I made it to chapter 4 after destroying the bandits at their hideout. I really enjoy how much focus there is on doing literally whatever you want, it's a nice change of pace from JRPGs following such a linear structure. Even if the game doesn't incentivize you directly to explore, you pretty much have to. You find so many items and quests by exploring that you wouldn't find by going from point A to point B.

Speaking of which, the game goes by very fast if you actually just go to the story locations and that's it, most of the game's content is exploration. However I will say, the exploration is not very fun as all the areas are pretty generic and don't have enough to interact with to warrant how large they are. It takes so long to fully map out an area yet barely anything is found in them. There's good items here and there and it's always good to explore, but the distance between them makes it a bit of a chore. Even if I do get happy when I find something while exploring, I find the exploration too time-consuming to properly enjoy it. Even moreso since the areas are all large squares and don't have much passages to make you feel like you're going somewhere.

The gameplay itself is quite fun and I enjoy how much focus is put on status spells. Battles are so much easier if you use debuffs and status ailments, so it really incentivizes you to use them and not spend all your slots on damaging spells and the like.
